"Leadership" Conference

I have three questions:
  1. Has anyone actually RSVP'd for this thing?
  2. Is it just going to be Jason talking the whole time like at COLT?
  3. Why should people pay an additional $5 for something they already pay for with their ASUN fee? Isn't one of the major philosophies behind ASUN, that everything is "free" for students to attend?

  1. This is Sandy's baby which was (rightfully) cut from the budget some years ago. Leave it to this session of senators to put it back in place. Gotta make it look like Student Activities is actually worth something.

  2. Actually Sean McDonald,

This Leadership Conference is a campus wide intiative (all students on campus are invited). The conference will include alumni speakers, people within the community, and students (not just in ASUN). It costs $5 as an incentive for people to actually come if they RSVP. Yes, people have RSVP'd, as many greek orgs and clubs are coming in groups. And, no, Jason will not be talking. This is super exciting and will include speakers and workshops from career dev., etc.

  3. If it's a "campus wide initiative" why is ASUN paying for it? And extorting people into coming by making them pay $5 isn't exactly the best way to encourage involvement.

How many of those "greek org and clubs" are being strong armed into coming by Jeremiah Todd or other current Senators? (usually greek houses require their new members to attend to "pad the attendance")

This whole thing seems like a waste of money. You don't even have any really good speakers. If you wanted to encourage involvement and participation in this event you should have booked a headliner.

Why are students paying, both by taxes and an admission fee, just to pad Jason's resume and give Molly something to do?

  4. Curious, whose idea was it to do this?

Wolfie, Sean McDonald certainly would have been a headliner. Think of the packed house you'd get. Everybody would be there to see Gracie McDonald and Sean Geremia--err, switch that--duke it out for the title of biggest asshole.

  5. Wolfie, you gripe without ceasing, but you never try to do anything about what you're complaining about. Therefore, I will listen attentively to you; acknowledge you by paraphrasing your concerns; not agreeing with or apologizing for your allegations, and by putting you in charge with what you think is wrong. And I couldn't have done that before reading the Quick Leader Tips here: http://www.unr.edu/stsv/studentactivities/leaderhints/

I feel like a leader already.

  7. HO-LY CRAP I could spend the rest of the semester lampooning the effluvium on that leadership site. I must tear myself away from it.

  8. Your Student Activites---no ASUN---tax dollars hard at work. I guess we now know what 40% of ASUN's budget pays for.

  9. Sean, I hope you don't get fired from your job at the Legislature for being spending so much time posting on this site when you should be doing your job. You graduated, move on with your life.

  10. Senator, you should worry about your own job rather than projecting your own deficiencies onto innocent people.
