ASUN Veep Charlie Jose drops race before it begins?

Seriously? What's going on here? ASUN Vice President Charlie Jose filed for election for president, but his name no longer appears as a candidate. If Jose does not run, this practically ensures a win for Casey Stiteler, the Director of Programming.

UPDATE on Jan. 29. 2010 at 2:44 p.m.
Observation of the ASUN election Web site indicates Charlie Jose may have decided to reenter the race. His name once again appears as a candidate. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. today, so this may change once again, and even once the filing period closes, a candidate has some time to have his name removed from the ballot.

  1. I smell some backroom cooking here...

But seriousy. Vote for Casey Stiteler because he looks like Eli Reilly, and goes to the same Frat as well! Well, at least that will be his message.

    We're fucked.

  2. Please explain how being the part of the same Fraternity and looks are a reason not to vote for for someone who has been active in ASUN. Also if you think we are "fucked," why did you not run? If you think you could have done a better job, then you should have ran for the office. But since there was no talk about an Eric running I am going to assume your apathy is being used to blog rather than be a part of the Univeristy.

  3. Are you seriously saying we should vote someone based off looks and fraternity membership? Pathetic.

You may want to vote for your best buddy because of that, but I won't. And who said I wasn't going to run?

Anonymous, if I was apathetic, would I bother spending my time here, or writing policy reccommendations in Insight? No.

  4. Jebus kid learn to read. feels like a tosh.0 moment here just not as funny (you can start with that when you try to flame me)

the guy before you wasnt saying to vote the guy because he was in the same frat you jackass. he was asking you why that matters. there are plenty of people in frats that do great things in frats with shitty members. the cream of their members normally make it into student government. and despite what bloggers and non ASUN people say/write they arent doing anything to help the system. we are "fucked" because someone had the balls to run for a hard job? no we are "fucked" because people like you think your piss poor blogging makes a differenece. you know what we call people who make a difference in ASUN? senators, officers, directors, justices, members of boards. let's check that list for blogging.....

the second part your response ill say again "Jebus kid learn to read." who said i wasnt going to run? well you dumb dumb since you didnt sign up in time. dont pull the whole "me name isnt Eric crap." ill put money down youre that retard kid that goes to Nevada and then talked shit about Nevada while praising UNLV.

this is the only one you almost had a leg to stand on. apathy can be an overall thing or specific thing. there are plenty of successful people that dont do anything productive for another thing. we call them selfish...like you. you are writing policy changes in a magazine that doesnt affect the masses as much as you think. you are not Thomas Paine. the british are not coming. there is no need to wait for the whites of their eyes. if you are not in ASUN, you are not doing anything for student government. spending time on a blog that, to be honest i enjoy reading for the pure joy of watching washed up ASUN officers bitch about shit that they can not control because they are not undergrads anymore, is not going change Nevada. as long as you do not actively involved yourself in the real ASUN, not this online shit, then you are not being a part of the solution.

  5. "if you are not in ASUN, you are not doing anything for student government."
So I guess the $60 I paid to ASUN this semester was me doing nothing.

  6. Whatever dude, it isn't Friday yet.

  7. yes it was doing nothing you paid $60 dollars and just watched it go to people wanting to get involved, as you sit here and read about all the things they want to do with your 60 dollars. Get involved, because thats the only way your going to get your moneys worth.

  8. Of course if you try to get involved you’ll quickly learn that what the in-group actually wants is more like-minded people to insulate themselves against the outside world.

  9. Being a member of the in-group, not bitter, just mostly true.

  10. Oh yeah Anon? Then who are you? Just so we know.

  12. The problem with Casey is that he has been "bred" into this position and is full of entitlement. Not to mention there was a large scandal with him be appointed to the office which he currently holds. Plus, it seems like he is an extension of Eli which is a bad or good thing depending on how you view it. The real issue is, does he have significant contributions and ideas of his own? And can he overcome the entitlement issues?

These were not issues with Charlie Jose. And, considering he has more experience than Mr. Stiteler it is curious he would drop out.

DOT sounds a lot like Patrick Kealy to me.

  13. I’m only calling it as I see it. There are a number of former ASUN folk who have told me that being in the group, you start to feel like critics gang up on you without acknowledging your successes. You start to feel like the world is configured “us versus them.” It makes it very difficult for ASUN officers to acknowledge their failures. Unfortunately, whatever the reason, the failures are legion. I wish it were not so.

  14. Sources tell me that Charlie Jose dropped out because he has an illegitimate child with a former Senator. Just kidding.

I hear he dropped because he plans on applying to med school and didn't think there would be time to run ASUN and to visit med schools across the country, take the prereqs and everything else you have to do for med school.

He would have been a good candidate, but it looks like he made the right decision.

  15. DOT is profane, disrespectful, intellectually lazy, and bitter. There is NO WAY that could be Patrick Kealy.

    Pretend this is anonymously posted.

  16. Check your facts when referencing how much experience either candidate has.

  17. Good luck voting for a guy whose entire fraternity has no respect for him. Find 10 guys in that frat who respect his dictator leadership style, and he'll have my vote.

  18. Eric: Of the 3 candidates running for president, WHICH ONE IS IN A FRAT!? I'll leave it to your imagination.

  19. From what I know, two of them (Charlie and Casey) are in a Frat. Now please answer my question so I know which dirt machine you are working for.

  20. Touche, you're very correct. My initial response was directed toward Mr. Stiteler. If your brothers do not support you as a leader, why should our University?
